Who are we?

On December 13, 2012 19 year old Joshua Proutey was shot and killed while leaving work.  Joshua Proutey was an outgoing, adventurous young man with a heart for children.  Joshua worked The Thalian Association Childrens Theater in Wilmington, NC.

Instead of turning away in her grief, Joshua’s mother, Patty decided to turn tragedy into action and created Journey4Josh (J4J) a non-profit 501 (c) foundation whose desire is to help continue the journey for other children, as Joshua’s journey was cut short.  Our mission is to reach the children between the ages of 5-8 in Wilmington with an interest in performing arts, sports, or other enrichment programs.  We will fund such activities for families who otherwise would be unable to afford these services.

We are dedicated to providing an environment that respects diversity, ideas, and hard work. We are a group of real people who simply believe that good can come out of the tragic loss of Joshua Proutey. Here is our action plan:

• We will aggressively seek out children at risk and in need of the safety net we offer through participation in activities otherwise not affordable to them.
• We will pursue excellence in everything we do. We will always give our children our best.
• We will never lose sight of the significance of “ONE.” One more child reached.  One more life changed.  One more dream realized.
• We will generously give back to those we partner with in our community
• We will not be deterred by personal agendas. Our only focus is on the children and families we are trying to reach rather than those we are trying to impress.
